Regular May Meeting Will Meet via Zoom; Organizational Meeting Postponed Until September

Dear Senators:

It is customary that the last Senate meeting of the Academic year (the first Monday of May) is in two parts: the regular meeting with the current senators for current Senate business, and then followed by the organizational meeting, where the new senators are introduced and elections occur for the Senate officers (Chair and Vice Chair) and for all the vacancies on the standing committees.

It is highly unlikely that we’ll be able to have a face-to-face meeting in May and therefore, due to the difficulty of having a Zoom meeting with over 50 people (let alone two with different set of participants!) we will have only the regular meeting in May.

On the First Senate meeting of the new Academic Year (tentatively scheduled for September 14) we will have all the elections with the new Senators on board and, hopefully, it will be of the in-person variety!  After elections, we will continue on with regular Senate business.

Senators whose terms are expiring should make sure to let their area know of the delay and that the name of their replacement should be sent forward to me and the Secretary of the Senate, Pauletta King, by Monday, August 31.

All the new Senators should plan to attend a New Senators Orientation, tentatively scheduled for September 9 (place and time TBD).

If you are continuing on the Senate for next year, should you be out during the fall and/or spring semester (due to sabbatical or other reasons) please have your area elect a temporary replacement for the duration of your absence and be sure to let us know who your replacement will be.
