Minutes for May 6, 2019 (Organizational Meeting)

The Faculty Senate of Eastern Kentucky University met on Monday, May 6, 2019, in the South Ballroom in the Keen Johnson Building. Vice Chair Ciocca called the organizational meeting to order at approximately 4:30 p.m.

The following members were absent: P. Boutin, K. Brewer, A. Brisman*, M. Benson*, C. Cassidy, R. Causey-Upton*, B. Clark*, J. Constantine, B. Dyer, W. Dooley*, D. Enz, D. Fifer*, P. Gao*, T. Gooch*^, A. Gossage*, P. Kraska, E. Meiners*, G. Nachtwey, M. Ndinguri, S. Self*, D. West*

NEW BUSINESS:

Senate Chair Election.  Parliamentarian Adams-Johnson temporarily stepped in to handle chair duties until the chair election was completed.

Senator Ciocca was nominated at the April meeting and elected today by motion to serve as chair for the 2019-2020 academic year.  (YES = 41 votes | NO = 1 vote| ABSTAIN = 0 votes) (See also:  Individual Votes)

Senate Vice-Chair Election.  Senator Crosby was nominated at the April meeting and elected today by acclamation to serve as vice chair for the 2019-2020 academic year. 

Committee Elections

  • Elections & University Nominations Committee (1 vacancy)
    Senator Gooch was elected by acclamation.
  • Academic Quality Committee (1 vacancy)
    Senator Nachtwey was elected by acclamation.
  • Board of Governors (2 vacancies)
    Senators Szabo and Pinion were elected by acclamation.
  • Budget Committee (2 vacancies)
    Senators Woodruff and I. Powell were elected by acclamation.
  • Executive Committee (2 vacancies)
    Senators Woodruff and Fleischer were elected by acclamation.
  • Faculty Rights & Responsibilities (3 vacancies)
    Senators Cizmar, Callahan, and McKinney were elected by acclamation.
  • Faculty Welfare Committee (2 vacancies)
    Senators Gremp and McCardle were elected by acclamation.
  • Information Technology Committee (3 vacancies)
    Senators George, Alvarez-Jaimes, and Schilling were elected by acclamation.
  • Rules Committee (0 vacancies)
  • COSFL (1 rep & 2 alternates needed)
    Nominees: Senators Callahan (A), Nowak (B), Woodruff (C)
    (A = 25 votes | B = 8 votes | C = 6 votes) (See Also: Individual Votes)
    Senator Callahan was elected to serve as the COSFL representative, with Senator Nowak elected first alternate and Senator Woodruff second alternate.

ADJOURNMENT

The meeting adjourned at approximately 5 p.m.
